The Siege of Dunboy

 

 

 With the defeat at Kinsale and the departure of the northern chiefs, the southern part of Ireland in rebellion against Queen Elizabeth, is left in the hands of Donal Cam O'Sullivan Bere, last of the Gaelic chieftains.

 

    In this Region Free DVD Local Historian Connie Murphy (Chairman, Beara Historical Society) narrates the long history of Dunboy Castle and how in 1602 the English forces under Sir George Carew, Lord President of Munster advanced for the final destruction of O'Sullivans castle and the end of a Gaelic way of life.
