King Edward VII Commemoration Medal, 1903 (Ireland) 188 x angesehenThis Medal was awarded to Sergeant William Ruth R.I.C during a Royal visit to Castletown Berehaven on the 1st August 1903 by King Edward and Queen Alexandra.
On the left, Hibernia can be seen looking over Kingstown (Dun Laoghaire) Harbour with the Royal Yacht Victoria & Albert III in the Background.

Garda Sgt. Michael Walsh, Adrigole213 x angesehenMichael was the Sgt. there from 1926 - 1945. An outstanding footballer, he played with Adrigole and was on the Beara team that won the county senior championship in the 1930’s. He is pictured with his daughter Joan, Gardai Colman and Joe Kilduff at the Adrigole Barracks

John Hurley272 x angesehenJohn Hurley was a native of Fuhir, Castletownbere and was shot dead on duty while attempting to arrest a suspect outside Tipperary Town on 26th April 1916. A Sergeant O’Rourke was also fatally wounded in the same incident.
Constable Hurley was buried in the North Road Cemetery and a Celtic Cross was erected in his memory. The inscription reads: - R.I.P. “Erected to the memory of John Hurley (24 years) who died 26 April 1916 from wounds received whilst gallantly doing his duty as a member of The Royal Irish Constabulary. Erected by his sorrowing parents and by the subscribers of the Irish Police and Constabulary Fund”

Constable Michael Sugrue338 x angesehenSeated on right in photograph, Michael Sugrue was one of three brothers who joined the Police. They were natives of Everaugh, Co Kerry. Although most of his service was in Beara, this photograph was taken in Carrick-On-Suir where he also served. On Disbandment of the R.I.C. in 1922 he returned to Castletownbere where he farmed until his death in the early 1970’s
